Good carbon markets are characterized by a government regulatory requirement to account for a company’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by submitting a suitable number of carbon emissions ‘certificates’, ‘credits’ or ‘permits’ to the government. Consequently what constitutes compliance with this regulation-based objective (and what does not) is generally clear cut.
